Based at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, 19th century mariner George Price explored the Amazon, surveyed a possible route for the Panama Canal, mapped New York Harbor, protected American citizens in Rome, and served under Admirals Farragut and Porter at the battles of New Orleans and Vicksburg. Not a life for the faint-hearted.
