Margot at South Georgia, November 2000

When Margot came across Shackleton’s story in 1984, she was so intrigued she dusted off her rusty library science degree and set off to find out how he did it.

She read every book she could find on the subject, joined polar mailing lists, flew to Seattle for book auctions, and spent vacations digging into files at Scott Polar Research Institute, the Royal Geographical Society, Shackleton’s alma mater, Dulwich College and at the homes of descendants of Endurance crew-members.

On her way to Antarctica in 1995, she zipped by the Alexander Turnbull Library in Wellington, NZ. A conversation with a librarian there led to transcribing diaries kept onboard Endurance. Margot wanted to know what Shackleton’s crew said about his leadership while their survival was in doubt.

A few years later, Wall Street Journal editor Stephanie Capparell interviewed Margot for an article about Shackleton. The morning Stephanie's article appeared, an editor from Penguin Putnam reached out to ask if she wanted to “write a book on the subject.” The result of that conversation is Shackleton’s Way.

Reagan’s Journey - Lessons from a Remarkable Career follows on Shackleton’s Way’s theme of overcoming challenges. Ronald Reagan graduated from college at the bottom of the Depression in 1932. America's unemployment rate stood at 24%.

Thanks to a conversation with a mentor that summer, Ronald Reagan was soon on his way to spectacular career success. Using timeless strategies, Reagan ultimately coached himself to the top of five professions - sportscaster, movie star, union leader, public speaker and statesman. Reagan’s Journey was sparked by Margot’s experience working on the 1980 Reagan Transition Team in Washington, DC.

Margot is an alum of Heidrick & Struggles and Fidelity Investments. She majored in Art History at Newton College of the Sacred Heart (now Boston College) and has a master’s in library science from Simmons University.
