Keeping Up Morale

Throughout the Endurance ordeal, Shackleton made sure everyone was treated equally so there could be no ill-feelings of favoritism. These entries from Worsley's journal illustrate examples of Shackleton's strategies for keeping up morale.


Frank Worsley's Journal - October 28 Thursday

One member of each tent takes it in turn to act as “Cook of the Mess”. We take turns alphabetically.


October 30 Saturday

The watch is set from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. for tonight – one hour each and each tent in rotation. My tent starts at 11 p.m. with Blackboro and ends with myself.
