When Emma was published in December 1815, Jane's brother Charles read it three times over the course of the next six months. On June 10, 1816, he noted in his diary “… after dinner, finished the three volumes of Emma being the 3rd time of reading it –. ”
Now that's a fan! Of course, he knew her well and knew how hilariously funny she was.
