A Mariner's Tale
The Civil War Years
A Mariner's Tale
George Price (1824 - 1895) joined the merchant navy in his teens.
In the 1840s, he jumped at the opportunity to fight with America in Mexico - a decision that led to a long career with the U.S. Navy based at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
Promoted by Admiral Farragut after the battle of New Orleans, Price was wounded in the fighting at Vicksburg.
