The 100,000 Year Journey

My great great grandparents immigrated to Brooklyn, NY in 1855 from Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

Their son, Francis, was born in Brooklyn in 1857. In 1859, they had a daughter and named her Amelia.

Ten years later, the only one still alive was Francis. He was raised in a Methodist orphanage in New Jersey. So far, we don't know when the others died or of what.

This photo-essay is based on my father's DNA. According to National Geographic, every man alive today is descended from a man who lived 100,000 years in Tanzania. So most of this journey reaches far beyond one family. It's really the story of the human family.
