A Rare Parish

On a rainy November evening in 1888, 33-year-old Father Edward McGolrick arrived to take over a disgruntled parish. The buildings were falling apart. The congregation was "burdened with debt and dissension."

Within months, the young priest had executed a turn-around and was on his way to building a new church and, over time, eight more buildings.

Like Sir Ernest Shackleton, Father McGolrick led by example; he communicated effectively; he worked at keeping up morale; and he main-tained a positive attitude.
