An Immigrant's Tale

An Immigrant's Tale

My great, great grandfather, Peter McGolrick, arrived in America in the 1850s with almost nothing. He worked as a laborer in Manhattan for a few months to pay his way to the California Gold Rush. He walked across Panama carrying his one pair of shoes.

Starting as a saloon keeper, he became a liquor dealer, hotel owner, municipal financier and community benefactor.
