For Shackleton, the Endurance expedition was a disaster. Yet, it's interesting to reflect that if he had achieved his goal of crossing Antarctica, almost no one would care. The expedition would be a footnote in history. It's his unfailing courage and refusal to give up in the face of relentless hardships that will live on forever as inspiring lessons for all of us.
